Four Teams to Make the Leap This Year

After the Chiefs’ second Lombardi Trophy in as many years on Super Bowl Sunday, 2022, the NFL season was officially over. We can only speculate at this point, but there are likely several teams that will make significant improvements in the coming year. Now is the time to plan for the offseason of 2023. We have no idea which teams will acquire which star players in upcoming trades and free agency, or which ones will pick up which highly coveted draught picks in April. As per the latest National football league news, some of the most promising candidates for explosive growth in 2023 include the following:

Colts

As the quarterback merry-go-round has come to an end for this franchise, general manager Chris Ballard is ready to make a long-term commitment in the quarterback position, especially with the fourth overall pick in the upcoming draught. Furthermore, the team is returning to the familiar practise of swapping offensive coordinators with the Eagles. If Bryce Young leaves Alabama, C.J. Stroud of Ohio State and Will Levis of Kentucky are two obvious targets. As the offensive coordinator for a team that saw Jalen Hurts emerge as an MVP contender, Shane Steichen should be able to fill his roster with enough Pro Bowl talent to give the AFC South a reason to believe again.

Jets

But even a somewhat unknown quarterback like Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo might be enough to lead this team to a winning record. We’re beginning to doubt the veracity of the New York City myth that “only a QB away!” keeps being rehashed. As an example, their O-line is still a major concern. They have young potential at so many positions that they could legitimately be a contender with a top-15 quarterback in a league where the Patriots are still reworking and the Dolphins are depending on TuaTagovailoa’s availability. Only if the team adds a superstar quarterback like Aaron Rodgers or Lamar Jackson does the new offensive coaching tandem of Nathaniel Hackett and Todd Downing sound appealing.

Bears

We’re difficult to shower praise on a front office that chose to ignore Justin Fields’ terrible supporting cast heading into the 2022 season, but with all that cap cash at his disposal, general manager Ryan Poles would have to try to not upgrade the young quarterback’s lineup. There is no reason to believe Chicago can’t play spoiler out of the NFC North as long as Fields’ protection and weapons improve even somewhat. The inexperienced Eberflus defence also can’t be too bad. Despite coach Matt Eberflus’s willingness to put the quarterback at risk of injury in the last games of the season, Fields’s second year performance was MVP-caliber.

Broncos

The “offence” created by Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson in 2022 was about as uninspiring as it gets. As an aside, Wilson can’t be any slower than he was under Hackett, and if he’s properly re-saddled to more run-heavy, play-action scripts with a healthier Javonte Williams, Denver still has the fundamental pieces on defence to keep up with the Chargers and Raiders in the AFC West.

The latter is still in play, but the new Saints head coach, Sean Payton, has the experience and credibility to get the former Seahawks star back into form. Both Mahomes and Hurts led all Fantasy players in 2022 CBS Sports leagues in winning %. Together with Joe Burrow and Josh Allen, they made up four of the top 12 players, which is encouraging news for Fantasy managers who wish to take quarterbacks early in the upcoming draught of 2023.

Top Four Quarterbacks

There’s no reason to be surprised by any of the top four quarterbacks. Super Bowl LVII’s MVPs were Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. If you believe CBS Sports’ ADP, they should be solid Fantasy choices this year. Both Mahomes and Hurts were excellent, but Mahomes was the better option for Fantasy managers as the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38-35 on Sunday. However, the rest of this bunch contained several big surprises.

After the 100th overall choice, the following players were selected: Fields (No. 137), Lawrence (No. 125), and Goff (No. 150). Not only that, but neither Jones nor Watson nor Smith were selected in the draught. The quarterbacks who finished the season with losing records were another significant surprise. TuaTagovailoa (0.495 win %), Aaron Rodgers (0.469), Justin Herbert (0.467), and Tom Brady were the four worst quarterbacks that met the study’s inclusion criteria (0.465). Further evidence that players like Herbert, Brady, and Rodgers were overvalued in the draught. Cousins was selected at No. 97 overall, while Prescott went in the second round at No. 77. Also watch out for Fantasy football news 2022.

Fields benefited many Fantasy managers throughout the season, but he didn’t have a great finish (he only had one game with more than 19 Fantasy points after Week 11). And many Fantasy teams with him on them probably advanced to the postseason. Watson, whose ban ended in Week 13, was another player brought in late in the season.
